Liton for responding to all humanitarian crises

RAJSHAHI, May 9, 2019 (BSS)- Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman has called for responding to all humanitarian crises including natural disasters, emergencies and situations of violence for the sake of reducing sufferings of people in need.

“Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is committed to do the same,” he further said on the issue while addressing a meeting of BDRCS at the city bhaban conference hall here yesterday afternoon.

Rajshahi City unit of BDRCS organized the meeting to mark the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day-2019.

Mayor Liton, who is also the city unit chairmen of BDRCS, says the BDRCS has been working in multi-sectoral approach so that all victims of disasters could be brought under its services at ones.

Unit Vice-chairman Rejaul Karim, Professor Abdus Salam from Rajshahi College, RCC Ward Councillors Rabiul Islam and Matiur Rahman, College teacher Fatematuzzohra and school teacher Laily Khatun also spoke.

City Mayor Liton put emphasis on strengthening understanding of the external stakeholders about the benevolent activities. He advocated for expanding the messages of the BDRCS among the school and college-level students so that more and more competent workforce is generated to this field.

Liton also underlined the need for strengthening networking with the relevant stakeholders to reinforce acceptance and access of BDRCS to affected people and communities. This will help creating safe working environment for staff and volunteers of BDRCS, especially in the sensitive and insecure context.
