Upgrading of Hemayetpur-Manikganj highway progressing fast

MANIKGANJ, May 08, 2019 (BSS) – Upgrading works of 31-kilometer Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj regional highway is progressing fast.

ECNEC approved the upgrading project of the regional highway at a cost of Tk.22529.64 lac on March 28, 2017.

Works are being implemented in four packages under the project, sources in the Roads and Highways said.

The works of the project include- widening of the roads, construction of drains or pit, construction of RCC box culvert, grass turfing, marking of road signs, repairing signal system and km post, construction of guide wall, and acquisition of land.

The Roads & Highways Department sources said the 50% works of 1st package, 65% works of 2nd package and 50% works of 3rd packages have already been completed.

The works of 4th package from Beutha to Khapar will start soon as all the proceedings have been completed, sources said.

The sources said though the project is scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2020, but it might be finished by December, 2019 with current pace of work.

Md. Emdad Hossain, Executive Engineer of Roads & Highways, Manikganj said after the completion of the project the distance of Manikganj from Dhaka will be reduced by 12 km.

It will also increase road safety reducing mishaps on this accident prone road.
