Come out from immoral competitions in exams: President

DHAKA, Mar 29, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today called upon the guardians not to involve in ominous and unfair competitions to help their children obtain ‘A+’ in public examinations. , including primary and secondary levels.

“You have to come out from ill and immoral competitions in the exams . . . as immoral education doesn’t bring any benefit to the society, the country and the nation,” he said while addressing the third convocation of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) at International Convention Centre, Bashundhara, here.

Terming the involvement of some parents in recent incidents of question paper leak, the President said the guardians should not only be concerned over their kids’ exam results, but also be cautious about the issue of their moral degradation.

The President, also the chancellor of the university, observed: “The society at present is experiencing the decadence due to lack of moral education.”

He appreciated the introduction of the special courses on “Moral Education” and “Emergence of Bangladesh” in the UITS curriculum to familiarize the new generation with the ideals and values of the country’s freedom struggle.

Abdul Hamid put emphasis on practical training alongside the theoretical teachings and hoped that the university authority would contribute in developing skilled, eligible and enthusiastic youths for the country.

“It is the demand of time to ensure quality education, infrastructure development and time-befitting facilities for the teachers, officials and employees of university,” the President said, asking the all private universities to abide by “The Private University Act 2010”.

President Hamid suggested the graduates not to forget the country and its people as well as not to compromise with injustice and untruth.

“Always try to uphold the dignity of your degree through which a lot of responsibilities are bestowed upon you and never tarnish your personal dignity and morality,” the university chancellor advised the graduates.

Computer scientist and columnist Professor Dr Mohammad Kaykobad of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was the convocation speaker.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan, UITS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammed Solaiman, UITS Trustee Board Chairman Alhaj Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman and secretaries to the President, among others, were present.
