Zakat donation app launched

DHAKA, May 6, 2019 (BSS) – With a view to simplifying the donation and Islamic lifestyle, mobile network operator Robi today introduced country’s first ever digital platform “Noor app”.

Using the app, Robi customers can digitally donate their zakat or sadaqah money to a number of verified charitable organizations.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan unveiled the app at a ceremony in a city hotel where Robi Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and officials were present.

Besides, the online zakat feature Robi in association with Bidyanondo Foundation is also introducing the first ever digital Iftar Vending machine “Amar Iftar”, which will enable the street children and elderly of the society to avail Iftar during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Robi customers will be able to contribute to the Amar Iftar initiative through purchasing recharge bundles. For every purchase of Taka 43 bundle by the customers, Robi will donate Taka 2 to the Bidyanondo Foundation under the initiative on behalf of the customers.

For every purchase of Taka 118 recharge bundle, the donation amount will be Taka 4.

The first ever digital Iftar vending machines will be stationed in various locations in Dhaka, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangpur and Rajshahi.

Volunteers of the Bidyanondo Foundation will do a biometric pre-registration of the underprivileged children and elderly. The registered beneficiaries can collect their Iftar during the Holy month of Ramadan by just verifying their thumb imprints in the vending machines.

Robi customers can also use the zakat calculator of the Noor app to calculate their zakat amount and pay their zakat through digital payment gateway involving payment through debit/credit card and mobile financial services operators.

Robi customers can also make sadaqah donation through the Noor app. The zakat or sadaqah contributions will be forwarded to Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Bidyanondo Foundation, Child and Old Age Care, Scholars Special School for Special Needs Children and Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission and Islam Mission Orphanage.

Robi will not charge the donors in any shape or form for using the Noor app platform for paying their zakat or for making sadaqah donations. In case someone making a payment through a card, the concerned bank or the payment aggregator may charge small fees.
