DU signs MoU with BIMRAD to promote oceanography research

DHAKA, May 5, 2019 (BSS) – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka (DU) and Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) was signed today to promote education, research and training on oceanography as well as protect environment and marine resources in the country.

Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and Director General of BIMRAD Commodore Kazi Emdadul Haq BN (retd.) singed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on the campus.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography Md. Jobaer Alam, Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed of the Department of International Relations, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman and some other higher officials from BIMRAD were present on this occasion.

According to the MoU, DU and BIMRAD will exchange information and materials to strengthen maritime research in the country.

They will also conduct joint research programmes and jointly organise seminar, symposium, conference, workshop and training programmes on oceanography.

Besides, they will work together to promote maritime sector in Bangladesh and formulate strategy in this regard.
