Cyclone Fani weakens into land depression

DHAKA, May 4, 2019 (BSS) – Cyclone Fani, moving further north-
northeastwards over Pabna-Tangail-Mymensingh region, has weakened and turned
into a land deep depression.

It has been weakened into a land depression first and then into a well
marked low over Mymensingh-Netrokona region … It is likely to move in a
north-northeasterly direction further inland, weaken gradually and become
unimportant finally, said a Met office special weather bulletin here today.

Under its influence the sky remains overcast and rain or thunder showers
with gusty or squally wind is continuing at a few places over the country,
the bulletin added.

Steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay and for this reason gusty
or squally wind speed of about 40-50 kph is likely over North Bay and
adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The maritime port of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been
advised to keep hoisting local cautionary signal number three.

Due to new moon phase and steem pressure gradient the low-lying areas of
the coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Hatiya,
Sandwip,Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi,
Bagherhat,Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to
be inundated by wind driven surge of 2-4 feet height above normal
astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been
advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
