NEW DELHI, March 27, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – India will bring back the bodies of its 39 nationals who were killed by Islamic State militants in Iraq, the country’s foreign minister has said.

This was assured by Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during a meeting with the families of the victims in the national capital Monday, media reports said Tuesday.

“The bodies will be brought back to India within a week. And junior Foreign Minister V.K. Singh will go to Iraq for that purpose,” sources were quoted as saying.

Swaraj had last week announced in the Indian Parliament that all 39 of the construction workers kidnapped by Islamic State militants in Mosul in 2014, had been killed.

She had said their bodies were found in a mass grave and the DNA of 38 bodies matched.
