Fatah leader calls on PM

 DHAKA, Mar 25, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated Bangladesh’s support to independent Palestine saying the brotherly country has special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh.

She said this when visiting Secretary General of Fatah Movement and President of Palestine Football Association and Olympic Committee General Jibril Rajoub paid a courtesy call on her at Ganobhaban here this evening.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the call on.

General Jibril Rajoub handed over a letter of the Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas to the Prime Minister, Karim said.

General Jibril Rajoub categorically mentioned that the Palestine would never compromise on the issue of Jerusalem.

Secretary General of Fatah Movement recalled with deep gratitude “Bangabandhu’s unstinted support for the cause of the independent Palestine and said, “Bangabandhu belonged not only to Bangladesh but also to the Palestine”.

General Jibril Rajoub highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her strong support to the Palestinian people in various international forums.

Palestine wants a peaceful and non-violent solution to the Middle East crisis. But Israel is unilaterally committing genocide which must be stopped, he said.

Expressing satisfaction at the existing level of cooperation between the two brotherly countries, General Jibril Rajoub said, many students from the Palestine are studying in the Bangladesh Military Academy.

He informed the Prime Minister that the Hebron Municipality Authority of the Northern Palestine unanimously decided to name a major road after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

At the meeting, the prime minister recalled her first meeting with late Palestinian leader Yaser Arafat in 1984, saying Arafat along with South African President Nielsen Mandela and Turkish President Soleman Demiral had also joined celebration of the 25 years of Bangladesh’s independence in 1997.

The Prime Minister conveyed her greetings to the Palestine President Mahmud Abbas.

During the meeting, Karim said, General Jibril Rajoub invited the prime minister to visit Palestine, which she accepted saying she would visit at a convenient time.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman and Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joinul Abedin were present.
