Zahid urges doctors’ to be more dutiful

DHAKA, April 30, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today urged doctors to be more dutiful, expressing grief over continuous absence of doctors at their duty place.

“We are trying our best to keep doctors presence at their duty place but it is very sad that many doctors leave their station without any permission,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 22nd University Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) today.

BSMMU, the country’s leading institution of medical education and research, organised the programme at its auditorium in city’s Shahbag area.

Zahid said because of its vast contribution to education, research and treatment, the fame of the university drew the attention in the international arena surpassing the national boundary.

State Minister for health Dr Murad Hasan, PM’s former Health and Family Welfare adviser Syed Modasser Ali, former Health Minister Dr Ruhal Haque were present with BSMMU vice chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua in the chair.

Dr Murad hasan said, since the inception of BSMMU, it has been playing a unique role in the field of higher research on medical science and providing healthcare.

Registrar Professor A B M Abdul Hannan moderated the programme.

The speakers called upon the physicians to play more sincere and responsible role in building Bangladesh a happy and prosperous country to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu.

The university chalked out elaborate programmes including hoisting of national and university flags in the morning, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, releasing of balloons and pigeons and brought out a colorful procession and cultural programmes.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday issued separate messages ahead of the day expressing their hope that the country’s leading medical university BSMMU will play more significant role in flourishing education and research in medical science to contribute to further development of health sector.

They greeted all teachers, physicians, nurses, officials and employees marking the day.
