NBR training taxpayers on VAT return submission

DHAKA, April 29, 2019 (BSS) – The VAT Online Project under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has initiated a month-long training programme for the taxpayers on submission of online VAT returns.

Under the project, training is being imparted to the officials of various corporate houses on submission of online VAT returns.

Talking to BSS, VAT Online Project Director Syed Mushfiqur Rahman said, “Slight changes have been made to the VAT return form in line with the new VAT law. Initiatives have already been taken to impart training to the tax officials of various corporate houses so that they could fill the new form and submit it through online with ease and comfort.”

He informed that the training workshop began in the capital last week and such training workshops would be gradually conducted across the country.

Launched on April 2 as test basis, some 150 taxpayers of the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) and 100 big corporate houses under four tax commissionarates in Dhaka have started submission of VAT returns through online.

Online submission of VAT returns would begin next month as test basis at 7 Commissionarates outside Dhaka.

Mushfiqur also informed that from August 14, submission of online VAT returns would be made open for all the taxpayers while all the taxpayers would have to submit VAT returns through online by December.

Under the present rules, every business enterprise has to submit VAT return every month while the total number of enlisted VAT payers in the country is now 1.67 lakh.

The VAT Online Project Director also said that once all the taxpayers would submit VAT returns through online, then there would remain no fake VAT enlisted business houses. “I hope through automation of the tax system, such ill activities would come to a complete stop,” he said
