Process underway to bring power from Nepal: Nasrul

DHAKA, April 29, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said process is being taken to bring more electricity from Nepal.

“The country’s private sector is producing 9,331 MW power. Power generation with joint investment in Bangladesh has got good organizational shape,” he told this to a delegation of Nepal, who called on at his ministry office.

A 15-member of Independent Power Producer Association of Nepal paid the call on and said Nepal got promise of $17 billion investment during the ‘Investment Summit-2019″.

They said hydropower which should be one of the main sectors for investment in Nepal and got proposal for generating 5,110 MW at a cost of $7.7 billion.

The Nepalese power delegation said Nepal is expected to export at least 9,000MW electricity to Bangladesh within the next 10 years.

During the meeting, Nasrul Hamid said there are united and coordinated efforts to enhance the regional cooperation, adding, “Bilateral or trilateral dialogue would have to continue to increase private sector cooperation.”

Among others, additional secretary of power division M Shafiqullah and Charge d affairs of Nepal Embassy to Dhaka Dhan B Oli also spoke on the occasion.
