Rajshahi CCs provide healthcare to 1.34-cr people last year

RAJSHAHI, April 29, 2019 (BSS) – Over 1.38 crore people including 5.64
lakh newborn babies were given primary healthcare services from 1,974
Community Clinics (CCs) in eight districts of Rajshahi Division last year.

Divisional Director of the Health Directorate Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya
revealed the information at a meeting at Nanking Darbar Hall on Sunday
marking the 19th founding anniversary of community clinics.

While reading out a keynote paper, he said community clinics here provided
antenatal services to about 1, 26,121 pregnant mothers, postnatal services to
30,280 and referred 2,60,268 other patients to another hospitals or doctors
for better treatment.

He added that the existing community clinics have attained the trusts of
marginal people as they are getting primary healthcare services from the
clinics regularly.

“We mainly provide five healthcare services and 28 types of medicines to
people free of cost,” he also said.

Divisional Office of the Health Directorate arranged the meeting where
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed as
the chief guest.

Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Nawshad Ali, Director of
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman, Divisional
Director of Department of Family Planning Shafiqul Islam and its Deputy
Director Dr Nasim Akter spoke as special guests.

In his remarks, RCC Mayor Liton said the present government under the
dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working sincerely to
reach the healthcare services at the people’s doorsteps.

“Reactivation and revitalisation of the community clinics is a great
achievement of the present government,” he added.

He put stresses on the need for boosting coordination between the works of
government and non-government organizations concerned so that the grassroots
people can derive full benefits of the community clinics and other upazila
and village level health and family welfare centres.

Liton said the community clinic is one of the ten special initiatives of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
