5th National Surfing competition kicks off

DHAKA, April 26, 2019 (BSS)- The 5th National Surfing competition began today at Laboni Point in the tourist hub of Cox’s Bazar where 150 surfers are taking part in the meet.

Dhaka-6 constituency lawmaker and Bangladesh Surfing Association (BSA) president Kazi Firoz Rashid formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Tourism Corporation chairman Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir, Pubali Bank Limited general manager Habibur Rahman, National Sports Council’s former Secretary and sea research institute project director Ashok Kumar, Cox’s Bazar acting Deputy Commissioner M Ashraful Afsar, Cox’s Bazar tourist police additional police super Josim Uddin, BSA vice president M Zehaduddin, Surfing The Nation founder Tom Bower, tournament committee’s convener and BSA joint secretary Moazzam Hossain Chowdhury, BSA treasurer Aminul Islam Liton, BSA executive members Swapan Boshu and Bodrul Alam Chowdhury were, among other, present in the inauguration ceremony.

BSA general secretary Sheikh Yousuf Harun presided over the opening ceremony.

Organized by BSA, a total of 65 surfers will qualify for the final round, comprising three categories – senior, women’s and junior (boys).

The competition is co-sponsored by Bangladesh Cricket Board, Pubali Bank Limited and Bangladesh Tourism Board.

The tourism partner of the competition is Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, hospitality partner – (Cox’s Today), Nishorgo Enterprise, Sea Gale and Saimon, dinner partners – Radiant Fish World and technical partner is Surfing the Nation.
