Country faces no shortage of sugar during Ramadan: Kamal

DHAKA, April 25, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder today said that the people across the country would not face any dearth of sugar during the forthcoming Ramadan as there is enough stock of sugar.

“There will be no shortage of sugar in the country during the Ramadan … the country has sufficient stock of sugar right now,” he said.

He informed this at a review meeting on the progress of projects implementation under Annual Development Programme (ADP) in the ministry’s conference room.

The state minister said Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation will sell sugar through truck-sale process in 16 locations in the capital during Ramadan.

Kamal said many European entrepreneurs expressed their interests to provide credit in setting up sugar factories here to increase its production.

He also urged the concerned authorities to install modern equipment removing the older ones in old sugar industries to make them viable.

Kamal said sugarcane farmers should be encouraged to cultivate high yielding varieties of sugarcane.

Ministry of Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim presided over the meeting.
