Shahjalal Boli wins Jabber’s wrestling title

CHATTOGRAM, April 25, 2019 (BSS)- Shahjalal Boli from Cumilla won the
championship trophy of this year’s historic Jabber’s Wrestling Competition
(Jabbarer Bolikhela) held at Laldighi Maidan today with much enthusiasm and
festivity.

Shahjalal clinched the champions trophy in a 18-minute fight by beating
former champion Tariqul Islam Jibon of Chokoria, Cox’s Bazar district.

Nearly 65 wrestlers aged from 10-70 years from different parts of the
country mainly from rural areas, who are locally known as Boli or Kustigir
participated in the 110th competition with the presence of thousands of
spectators at the open Laldighi Maidan at 3 pm today.

The wrestling competition was the main attraction of the traditional
three-day Abdul Jabbar Boli Khela cum Boishaki Fair popularly known as
“Jabbarer Boli Khela”, usually held on April 25 every year.

Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Mahbubur Rahman who
attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest handed over the trophy to
the winner.

Shahjalal Boli received a champions trophy, certificate and cash of Taka
20 thousand as prizes.

Panel Mayor Chowdhury Hasan Mohammad Hasni, Additional Commissioner of
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Amena Begum, local ward councilor and
Chairman of Jabbarer Boli Khela organizing committee Johor Lal Hazari and
Chief Marketing officer of GrameenPhone Yasir Azman, among others, witnessed
the competition sponsored by private telecom company Grameen Phone.

The century-old event which is marked by a three-day fair of locally made
beautiful handicrafts, artifacts, earthen goods and indigenous household
items at one and half a kilometer adjoining areas of Laldighi Maidan will
formally end tomorrow.
