Tazul for modernization of fire extinguishing system
DHAKA, April 25, 2019 (BSS) – LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam today said the government has taken multidimensional initiatives for making the fire extinguishing system more modern and time-befitting to check fire incidents.
“Recently some fire incidents in multi-storied buildings have claimed lives and caused damages to properties which are very much unexpected. The government is working to increase the capability of those institutions and individuals in extinguishing fire and minimizing such fire incidents,” he told a meeting on ‘what to do to extinguish fire at the LGD conference room.
The minister said though the buildings have fire extinguishing system, its effectiveness would not tested and monitored on regular basis. Besides, there is lack of trained persons in this regard, he added.
He said it is a must to create consciousness among the people to prevent fire incident. In this regard, the minister asked the concerned to arrange training or fire drill on fire extinguishing, emergency rescuing, emergency exit and providing first aid at all levels in the country.
Attending the meeting, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam proposed constructing 20 model buildings which would be fire resistant. To some extent, tax rebate could be given in terms of constructing buildings by properly maintaining fire extinguishing system, he suggested.
Local Government Division (LGD) Secretary SM Golam Faruque, representatives of Housing and Public Works Ministry, Security Services Division, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Power Division, City Corporations and concerned offices attended the meeting.
