5,000 doctors to be recruited in next two months: Zahid

DHAKA, April 25, 2019 – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said 5,000 doctors would be recruited within the next two months to provide smooth healthcare at the doorsteps of the people living in rural areas.

Zahid also said shortage of human resources is the major obstacles to ensure smooth health-care services for the people.

“The present government is trying to overcome this problem. As part of this endeavour, 5,000 doctors will be recruited in the next two or three months for ensuring better healthcare services,” he said while addressing a discussion at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.

National Malaria Elimination Programme and BRAC jointly organised the programme marking the National Malaria Week with the theme “Zero malaria starts with me”.

Zahid, in his speech, also underscored the need for country ownership
and community empowerment for malaria prevention and care.

The minister also put emphasise on creating awareness among people to
eliminate malaria from the country.

Health secretary Asadud Islam and Director General of Directorate
General of Health Services (DGHS) Abul Kalam Azad were present at the
briefing, among others.
