105 illegal structures demolished in N’ganj, Tongi

DHAKA, APR 24, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority
(BIWTA) in an eviction drive demolished a total of 105 illegal structures in
Narayanganj and Tongi.

The BIWTA conducted the drive following the order of the Shipping
Ministry aimed at freeing riverbanks from illegal encroachment, said a press
release.

The demolished structures include 4 three-storied buildings, 5 two-
storied and 41partially constructed houses, along with 50 tin-shed shops in
Noyapara area of south Rupshee in Narayanganj, freeing about 40 acres of
land, added the press release.

A total of 55 illegal structures including one five-storied building,
one 4-storied building, 17 partially constructed buildings and 36 tin shed
shops starting from Tongi Sarak bridge to Rail bridge on the banks of Turag
river, were demolished freeing about an acre of land.

Goods worth 1.80 lakh were auctioned by BIWTA during the drive, added
the release.

BIWTA will continue the eviction drive to free the river banks.
