Stocks witness flat despite higher transactions

DHAKA, April 24, 2019 (BSS) – Stocks witnessed flat on Wednesday with downward trend of major price indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges despite higher transactions.

The daily trade value increased to Taka 332.84 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 298.63 crore and the volume rose to 7.69 crore shares from 7.64 crore shares of the previous session.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 20.49 points down at 5,240.36. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 4.61 points down at 1,868.13 and with 4.26 points down at 1,211.15.

At DSE, out of the day’s 346 securities, prices of 104 securities closed higher against 203 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Fine Foods, Standard Ceramics, National Life Insurance, Generation Next and United Insurance. The major losing issues were Premier Bank, First Security Islami Bank, UPGDCL, Monno Ceramics and BDLAMPS.

UPGDCL topped the turnover list followed by National Tubes, Monno Ceramics, Fortune Shoes and BSCCL. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 77.07 points down at 16,044.13.

At CSE, 235 issues were traded. Of those, 64 closed higher and 148 closed lower when 42.29 lakh shares worth Taka 13.67 crore changed hands.
