DHAKA, April 23, 2019 (BSS) – National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan today said time of prior declaration for gold import would be extended by three months as necessary preparation for implementing the import policy is yet to be completed.

“A letter to this end (time extension) would be sent to Bangladesh Bank and Industries Ministry within one week,” he said while replying to a proposal of Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BJS) in a pre-budget meeting at NBR auditorium.

BJS vice president Enamul Huq Khan said rich people do not buy gold in the country, rather they buy it from India to avoid 5 percent VAT. The NBR Chairman said they have to work as per financial reporting act and permitted amount of gold was fixed for import. “We didn’t work on it. Our plan is to make the act effective from July 1,” he added.
