BNP has no belief in democracy: Food minister

DHAKA, March 20, 2018 (BSS) – Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam today said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has no belief in democracy and people’s mandate that’s why they are seeking support from foreigners.

The food minister said this as the chief guest while addressing a discussion. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) arranged the programme marking the 5th death anniversary of former President Zillur Rahman at Jaitya Press Club (JPC) here.

The ruling Awami League (AL) has no desire to keep BNP Chairperson away from the election, said the minister, adding, however, BNP chief’s participation in the election totally depends on the apex court’s decision.

“We are not trying to keep her [Khaleda Zia] away from the election ….We have no influence on the legal affairs,” said the minister.

Chaired by BSJ’s Advisor Lion Chittaranjan Das, the programmes was addressed, among others, by Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, ruling party leader Baloram Podder, BSJ’s General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana.

Recalling the role of former AL leader Zillur Rahman during one-eleven, the food minister said he kept the party united during the regime of the then caretaker government.
