Rupganj sign off DPL with win over Prime Bank

DHAKA, April 23, 2019 (BSS)- Opener Mohammad Naim struck his second successive century in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as Legends of Rupganj thrashed Prime Bank by 88 runs in their last match of the Super League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Rupganj ended the league with 26 points, same as Abahani Limited but they became runners-up by virtue of net-run-rate. Since the head-to-head battle between the two sides ended on 1-1.

Abahani Limited crushed Rupganj by 102 runs in the super league phase to take a sweet revenge of their 16-run loss to Rupganj in the group phase, the net-run-rate came to the fore to decide the championship title. In the super league Abahani thrashed Rupganj to boost their net-run-rate factor by big margin as they have 0.866 in contrast of Rupganj’s 0.517.

Rupganj expected a defeat of Abahani at the hands of Sheikh Jamal but that was not to be as the Dhanmondi outfit made a mockery of Jamal to crush them by nine wickets, overhauling the target of 318 at incredible ease.

However Rupganj played their part well also, taking a sweet revenge over Prime Bank who beat them by nine wickets in the group phase.

Put into bat first, Rupganj amassed 327-4 in 50 overs after which Mohammad Shahid snapped up 4-22 to wrap up Prime Bank for 239 in 42.1 overs.

Opener Naim followed his 123 against Abahani with 130 ball-136 runs against Prime Bank to lead the charge. He hit 19 boundaries in the knock that set a platform for Rupganj to post big total. Opener Mehedi Maruf scored a fluent 54 and Mominul Haque made 52 to give Naim an apt support.

Nahidul Islam was the only batsmen to resist spirited Rupganj bowlers as he hammered 74 off 57 with eight fours and three sixes. No batsmen could came up with handy support for him, leaving Prime Bank’s to a frustrating defeat.

With 16 points under the belt, Prime Bank finished the league as fifth side.
