Killers of inspector Jalaluddin to face trial: IGP

DHAKA, Mar 20, 2018 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Md Jabed Patwari today said the highest efforts would be made to bring to book the killers of Md Jalaluddin, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police.

The IGP said this after attending the namaz-e-janaza of Jalaluddin at Razarbagh Police Line in the city this afternoon.

Patwari gave assurances of providing all supports to the family of the deceased policeman.

Members of police, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner and senior officials, joined the namaz-e-janaza, among others.

Md Jalaluddin was killed in a reported gunfight with criminals at Maddho Pirerbagh in the city’s Mirpur area in the early hours of today.

DB sources said, on a tip-off that a gang of criminals is gathering firearms, a team of DB’s Pallabi Zone conducted a drive in a three-storey building at Maddho Pirerbagh area around 11 pm yesterday.

At one stage of the drive, the criminals opened fire targeting the detectives, which prompted them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Md Jalaluddin injured with bullets on his head, said Md Wahiduzzaman, inspector (investigation) of Mirpur Thana.

Jalaluddin was taken to Square Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2 am.

The criminals fled away through the backside of the building.

However, the law enforcers detained three people from the house for interrogation.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah visited the spot around 1 am. Later, he went to Square Hospital to see the police officer.

Jalaluddin was third among his five brothers and two sisters. He left behind two daughters – Tripti, a student of class ten and Turja, a student of class eight of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhaka.

He will be laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard at Bholapara village of Kaliganj Upazila in Jhenaidah.
