Poor feeding practices cause childhood malnutrition: speakers

SHARIATPUR, April 21, 2019 (BSS) – Limited dietary diversity and poor
feeding practices are the main causes for childhood malnutrition.

“Lack of adequate knowledge about food values amid the people is leading
to malnutrition among the children,” speakers told a press conference held at
the District Civil Surgeon Office on the occasion of National Nutrition Week.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Khalilur Rahman addressed the press conference as the
chief guest while officials of different district and upazila level hospitals
and health complexes, among others, were present on the occasion.

Khalilur said malnutrition rate among the children are still high in the
country as most of the people even affluent section do not have adequate
health knowledge.

Many people do not have adequate knowledge about breastfeeding and
complementary feeding which causes the childhood malnutrition, he said,
adding people should be educated on different health issues for improving
nutritional status of children.
