Mahbub for using digital media to promote tourism

DHAKA, April 20, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali today said the government is working on promoting Bangladesh tourism to attract both domestic and international tourists using digital media like social networks and websites.

“We are trying to make our digital media well-designed and tourist-friendly with all necessary information” he said while speaking at the concluding ceremony of a three-day international tourism fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here.

The state minister said in today’s world, communication network has become more efficient and informative with the use of the internet.

“The media is one of the most important aspects of the tourism business as it can promote tourism by projecting a destination,” he said.

Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), the apex body of tourism in Bangladesh, organised the fair styled “9th Biman Bangladesh Travel & Tourism Fair 2019” in association with Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Bangladesh Tourism Board, FBCCI, Tourist Police and PATA Bangladesh Chapter with title sponsor of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd.

Around 140 foreign exhibitors like tour operators, airlines, hotels, and resorts from Nepal, Bhutan, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines and the Maldives along with Bangladeshi tourism service providers displayed their various services at 160 stalls and 15 pavilions during the fair.

Bangladesh Tourism Board CEO Dr. Bhubon Chandra Biswas, Biman Bangladesh Airlines general Manager Shakil Meraj, TOAB President Taufiq Uddin Ahmed, Director Taufiq Rahman and Director (Trade & Fair) Md Taslim Amin Shovon also spoke at the closing ceremony.

On the sidelines of the fair, a number of seminars, round-table discussions and country presentations on tourism were held over the last three days.

The topics of two round table discussions were “Buddhist Circuit Tourism in the Region” and “1000 Years History and Heritage of Dhaka”.

The A2i programme also organized a brainstorming session on “Innovative Digital Idea of Tourism” in collaboration with the TOAB.

President Md Abdul Hamid inaugurated the fair on Thursday last.
