Govt spending Taka 50 crore for upgrading Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy

 DHAKA, March 19, 2018 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda today said the government is spending nearly Taka 50 crore for upgrading the Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy (BMFA) as an international training center and a marine resource based research organization.

“The government is implementing a project for building marine fisheries capacity with a cost of Taka 50 crore to upgrade the marine fisheries academy as an international training center and sea-resource based research institute,” said the minister as the chief guest while attending at graduation parade of 36th cadet and certificate distribution on the Marine Fisheries Academy premises in Chittagong on Friday.

Under the project, the government will build hostel for foreign cadets, officers residence, women cadet hostel, residential quarters for employees, swimming pool, gymnasium and auditorium complex, he added.

In the 36th batch, a total of 84 cadets achieved gradation degree from the marine fisheries academy on nautical science, marine engineering and marine fisheries department after completion of their training.

Cadet Mohammad Mozammel Haq and Iva Shil jointly achieved the gold medal respectively from the nautical science and marine engineering department and they were selected as the best cadet of all the departments.

Later, the minister inaugurated newly built swimming pool, gymnasium and auditorium complex under the second amended project.

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary M Raisul Alam Mondol attended as the special guest while senior officials of the concerned ministry including joint secretary Towfiqul Arif, also spoke on the occasion.
