Russell begins new life with prosthetic leg

SAVAR, April 18, 2019 (BSS) – Russell Sarker, who lost his left leg in a road accident, has started a new life with a prosthetic leg donated by the Centre for the Rehabilitation for the Paralysed (CRP), Savar.

Russell lost his left leg in an accident on April 28, 2018 when a bus of Green Line Transport Company ran over him at capital’s Jatrabari.

Head of CRP’s prosthetic and orthotics department Mohammad Shafiq affixed the limb in Russell’s body today. CRP’s gesture of providing the Swiss made prosthetic leg was fully complimentary, he said.

Expressing his joy after affixing the leg Russell said he wished to die after losing his ability following the accident. But now he dreams of a new life.

Now Russell will be given a four-week exercise on using the leg and cope with his daily activities.

At the directives of the High Court, Green Line has already paid Taka five lakh out of total amount of Taka 50 lakh as compensation to Russell.
