CHAPAINAWABGANJ, April, 18, 2019 (BSS)- A court here today awarded death sentence to five persons on charge of killing a woman after rape.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 and Additional District and Session Judge Shawkat Ali also fined of Tk. one lakh each.
The judge acquitted three accused of the case as the charges brought against them were not proved.
The convicted persons are – Nayan Kumar Robidas, 28, son of Shyamapada Robidas of Malbagdanga village, Prosanta Robidas, 22, son of Biren Robidas of Sonapatti village, Nitai Chandra Robidas, 24, son of Ratan Robidas of Chakpara village, Suvash Das, 42, son of Suchen Das and Prosanta Robidas, 24, son of Khokon Robidas. All are from Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.
During the pronouncement of the verdict Nayan Kumar Robidas and Prosanta Robidas were present and the other three convicts remained absconding.
Miscreants killed Ayesha Khatun, 20, daughter of Mofizul Islam of Kalinagar Bablabona village and her body was recovered by police from a ditch at Moharajpur Mela Square of Sadar Upazila on June 14, 2015.
Although at the preliminary stage the cause of her death could not be known, it was ascertained after getting the autopsy report that she was killed by suffocating after rape.
It was mentioned in the charge sheet that Nayan had an affairs with Ayesha. On the day of the incident Nayan requetsd Ayesha to meet him. As Ayesha went to visit Nayan she was raped by Nayan and his friends. To suppress the incident they trangulated Ayesha, according to the prosecution.
After hearing 14 witnesses the court handed down the verdict.
