99th birthday of Bangabandhu observed in country

 DHAKA, Mar 17, 2018 (BSS) – The 99th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day-2018 was observed throughout the country in a befitting manner.

People of all strata along with different cultural, professional and social organizations including the ruling party and its associate bodies thronged Bangabandhu Bhaban in the morning to pay glowing tributes to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi road number-32.

Dhaka University, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangabandhu Parishad, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Muktijoddha Foundation, Bangabandhu Ain Parishad and different institutions and organizations paid homage to the great man.

In Chittagong, the 99th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2018 was observed as elsewhere in the district in a befitting manner.

District administration, different political parties, educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations arranged various programmes marking the day.

The programmes included children rally, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, cultural functions, discussions, essay and drawing competition and poetry recitation.

As part of the government programme, the district administration and Bangladesh Shishu Academy arranged a daylong programme including competitions of painting, handwriting, essay and extempore speech for children.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of CCC in the morning.

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Deputy Commissioner Ilias Hossain, and leaders of different cultural organisations placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Shilpakala Academy.

Later, a large number of children and juvenile rally started from Chittagong circuit house that ended at Shilpakala Academy after parading different important city streets.

Huge number of people including students with colorful dresses joined the rally.

Later, a discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu was held on Shilphakal Academy in the afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilias Hossain presided over the function while divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Deputy Inspector General of Police Moniruzzaman, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar and Superintendent of Chittagong district police Nur-e-Alam Mina addressed the function as special guests.

Chittagong Metropolitan police commissioner Iqbal Bahar along with Deputy Inspector General of police, Chittagong range Moniruzzaman and high police officials paid rich tributes by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at city’s Dampara police lines field.

Leaders of Chittagong city AL paid tributes to the architect of the nation by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at city’s Darul Fazal Market party office.

Chittagong Press Club celebrated the day through elaborate programmes. The programmes included discussion, poetry recitation, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, essay and drawing competition and poetry recitation.

Bangladesh Chhatra League units of all educational institutions in the city including Chittagong University, Chittagong Medical College, Chittagong University of Engineering Technology (CUET), University of Science and Technology Chittagong and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Amra Kaijan Mujib Sena also held discussions on the life and works of Bangabandhu.

In Rajshahi, the 99th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2018 was observed amid much festivity.

Marking the day, the district administration brought out a colourful rally from the Laboratory School that ended at Shilpakala Academy ground after parading some of the thoroughfares

A large number of people, including schoolboys and girls in colourful dresses, joined the rally.

Later, a discussion and prize-giving ceremony was held at local Shilpakala Academy.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Noor-Ur-Rahman addressed the discussion as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader in the chair.

The district administration and Bangladesh Shishu Academy also arranged a daylong programme, including painting competition, handwriting, essay and extempore speech for children.

The competition was held at different educational institutions in the metropolis and the district. Marking the birth the day, local socio-cultural and political organisations arranged separate programmes in the city and upazila headquarters.

In Rangpur, the day was celebrated through different colorful programmes amid festivity and enthusiasm.

District administration, Awami League (AL), associate bodies, Rangpur City Corporation, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Shishu Academy, Islamic Foundation, District Information Office, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional and other organisations celebrated the day in a befitting manner.

The programmes included placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, cutting of cakes, children’s gatherings and processions of underprivileged children, drawing, essay competition, screening of documentaries on Bangabandhu, discussions and cultural functions.

The celebrations began through placing wreaths at the Mural of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Square and releasing balloons there in the morning.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Khondker Golam Faruk, Zila Parisahd Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom and high officials placed wreaths there.

The district administration brought out the main rally and organised main discussion on Bangabandhu at Town Hall auditorium.

In Gaibandha, district administrations, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Health department, Islamic Foundation, Social Services Department, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha, Bangladesh Awami League and academic institutions including socio-cultural organizations chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.

The programmes included hoisting of national and party flags at the party offices of AL in the morning, placing floral wreaths at the moral of Bangabandhu at the pour park, bringing out colorful rally, arrangement of art and good hand writing competition and prize distribution.

The programmes also included holding milad and doa mahfil, offering special prayers at the mosques, temples and churches for salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu, blood donation and cultural function side by side with serving improved diets to the inmates of the government shishu paribars.

Besides, a discussion organized by district administration was held on the premises of Independence Square of the town here around 9 am with deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) Abdul Mannan Miah, general secretary of Bangladesh, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were present at the event as the special guests.

Earlier, a colorful rally led by whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini was brought out from Independence Square and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town.

Similar programmes were also held in other six upazila headquarters of the district marking the day.

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authority also observed the day in a befitting manner.

JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam accompanied with JU Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique and teachers of different departments paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing floral wreaths at his portrait adjoining the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall at 10 am.

Later, different departments, institutes, dormitories and teacher’s organisations placed floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu there.

Earlier, led by JU VC, a colorful procession brought out from the Central Shahid Minar premises that ended at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall premises parading different streets on campus. In Khulna, the 99th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day was observed with due respect, fanfare and festivity.

Different socio-cultural, educational institutions, political parties and district administration observed different programmes marking the day.

The programmes include discussion, cultural function, placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation, rally, children gathering, poem recitation, speech and essay competition, screening film show, prayers and doa mahfil at every mosque, temple, church and pagoda.

To mark the Day, Khulna District Administration brought out a rally led by Talukder Abdul Khaleque, MP, from KDA New Market and ended at Khulna Shaheed Hadis Park where they placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Improved diet was served at all orphanage organisations, hospital, jail and special prayers were offered at all mosques, temple, church and pagoda.

Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations, Khulna City Corporation, Khulna WASA, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and other educational institutions, Khulna Betar, Khulna Shishu Academy also observed the similar programmes today while Khulna District Information Office screening life sketch of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The birthday was also celebrated in Chapainawabganj in a befitting manner. Different government and non-government organizations and educational institutions took up different programmes to mark the day.

Chapainawabganj district administration arranged a colourful procession which started from the deputy commissioner’s office in the morning and after parading the main roads of the town it ended at Bangabandhu Muktamanch.

Wreaths of flowers were offered at the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman there.

Besides, the birthday of Bangabandhu was celebrated at all districts including Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Kharachari, Feni, Noakhali, Comilla, Narayanganj, Mankiganj, Jessore, Jhenidah, Sylhet and Sunamganj.
