Bangladesh’s blockchain platform wins int’l award
DHAKA, April 16, 2019 (BSS)-A government blockchain platform has been selected for
prestigious Enterprise Blockchain Award in services, platforms and solutions category
in an international competition held in the first week of April in Toronto, Canada.
Informing this to Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC)
Parthapratim Deb through e-mail Blockchain Revolution Global (BRG), a worldwide
enterprise leadership community for blockchain, has invited BCC to attend the
blockchain conference and prize distribution programme to be held in Toronto of Canada
on April 24-25, said a press release here today.
The blockchain platform, developed by BCC, an affiliated organization of ICT
Division to preserve the online systems and services more securely, has been selected
for the award facing a competition with internationally reputed IT giants like IBM,
Accenture, Microsoft, HCL Technologies.
“Nomination for international award about the activities on emerging technologies
like blockchain proves Bangladesh’s capability to face the challenges and utilize
prospects of fourth industrial revolution,” said Parthapratim.
He said blockchain is being considered as most secured technology in the world and
BCC has successfully developed the blockchain platform to connect the online systems
and services with it aimed at preserving the documents more securely.
“The BCC’s blockchain platform will primarily check the use of fake certificates,
admit cards,” Parthapartim said, adding that steps will be taken to encourage the
public and private universities and the government organizations to preserve their
certificates in the blockchain platform.
A Bangladesh National Digital Architecture (BNDA) team of Leveraging ICT for Growth,
Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of BCC provided technical cooperation to
develop the blockchain platform.
“Initially two systems/services — training management system of BKIICT and Online
Recruitment System of BCC have been connected with the blockchain platform,” Deputy
Director of LICT project Tarique M Barkatullah said, adding that the certificates of
training programmes and admit cards for recruitment exams are being preserved with
foolproof security.
He said the authenticity of information of certificates and admit cards can be
verified through mobile phone. The e-pension system of Primary and Mass Education
Directorate is being connected to the blockchain platform of BCC, Tarique added.
