WIPO to cooperate Bangladesh installing IP academy

DHAKA, April 11, 2019 (BSS) – World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO) would extend cooperation to Bangladesh to establish Intellectual
Property (IP) Academy.

WIPO Director General Francis Gurry told Posts, Telecommunications and
Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, who is also in the chair of
the ongoing five-day World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum-
2019, during a view exchange meeting at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, said a
ministry release today.

Francis Gurry said protecting IP is a new challenge in the technology-
based world, especially in the time of facebook, google where everybody is
connected with another. “So, we have to rethink the ways of IP protection in
the internet world.”

Highlighting the new technologies and required policies for those, the
WIPO Director General also discussed with Bangladesh minister about policies
of property rights such as industry 4.0, big data, artificial intelligence
etc.

Mustafa Jabbar said policy has to be framed matching with the
technologies of the new world, and hoped WIPO would play a key role to
reorganize the policies.

The minister also assured the WIPO director general to provide all kind
of cooperation.

Posts and telecommunications division deputy secretary Muhammad Khurshed
Alam Khan, first secretary of Bangladesh mission in Geneva Mahbubur Rahman,
project director of Amader Gram Unnayaner Jonno IT Reza Selim and WIPO
officials were present.
