Index at bourses decline, turnover rise

DHAKA, April 08, 2019 (BSS) – The capital bourse of the country today witnessed another price correction session and edged lower as investors went for cautious and lower appetite for trading.

From the early part of the session, index experienced selling pressure amid restless fall as investors continued to book profit from sector specific large-cap stocks.

On the second day of the week, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) settled at 5372 points by declining 61 points as the shaky investors liquidated their holdings from sector specific stocks, especially from Fuel and Power, Telecommunication and Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals sectors which pushed down the market.

At the end of the session, the DSEX settled at 5372.23 with a loss of 1.13 percent or 61.66 points.

The Shariah-based index DSES declined 1.44 percent or 18.14 points to close at 1240.61.

The DS30 index comprising blue chip securities closed at 1924.53 points with a loss of 0.93 per cent or 18.22.

A total of 273 issues were traded of which 45 advanced while 273 declined and 28 were unchanged on the DSE.

Meanwhile, market turnover increased and stood at Taka 4.2 billion and the core index closed at 5,372.2 points with a loss of 61.7 points.

Sector wise performance exposed that- Only Food and Allied (2.5 percent) sector experienced price appreciation in today’s session while Ceramics (-3.2 percent), Services and Real Estate (-2.6 percent) and General Insurance (-2.5 percent) sectors experienced the highest price correction in today’s session.

Investors’ attention were mostly concentrated on Food and Allied (15.4 percent), Engineering (12.9 percent) and Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals (12.2 percent) sectors.

The port city bourse CSE also closed in red zone today. CSCX & CASPI decreased by 112.3 and 186.4 points respectively.

Of 241 issues traded, only 42 advanced, 180 declined and 19 were unchanged.

At the end of the session, the turnover stood at above Tk 152.419 million on the port city bourse CSE.
