Call to raise voice against food adulteration

RAJSHAHI, March 13, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop here called for raising voice against food adulteration for the greater interests of consumers rights protection.

They viewed that if the people forge social resistance against the food adulteration, none can dare to commit such crimes.

Besides, proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) Law could be the vital means of protecting the consumers’ rights with freeing people from affecting by any food poisoning and other contamination.

The observation came at the daylong workshop styled “Institutional Development and Role and Responsibilities of Consumers Committee” at Barnoi conference hall of Paba Upazila Parishad on Monday.

Paba unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and Issue-based Project on Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector jointly organized the workshop in association with UKaid and British Council.

Chaired by the unit president Kazi Nazmul Islam, Upazila Cooperative Officer Jamal Uddin, Youth Development Officer Syed Ali Reja addressed the meeting as guest speakers.

CAB district unit general secretary Golam Mostofa, Project Officer Mijanur Rahman, Field Coordinator Amor D Costa, Field Officer Mohidul Hassan and committee member Ashraf Ali Dewan also spoke.

The speakers said there is an urgent need of bringing all the businessmen and others concerned under the awareness programme to stop food adulteration.

Unsafe food has been adjudged as a major threat to public health in Bangladesh, so emphasis should be given for adopting effective measures in this regard, they added.
