DHAKA, April 5, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today put Noni Gopal Sarker,
owner of Suprobhat Paribahan bus that crushed Bangladesh University of
Professionals student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury on March 19, on three days remand
in the case filed in this regard.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Baki Billah passed the order as
investigation officer and detective branch (DB) inspector Qazi Shariful Islam
produced him before the court and pleaded to put Sarker on three-day remand.
DB arrested Sarker on the evening of April 4 from capital’s Mugda area.
Earlier on April 2, Suprobhat Paribahan conductor Yasin Arafat and helper
Ibrahim made confessional statements before the courts of Dhaka Metropolitan
Magistrates Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury and Sorafujjaman Ansari
respectively. After recording the statements, the court sent the duo to jail.
On March 28, driver Sirajul Islam gave statement under section 164 before
the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury while
the magistrate had put the bus conductor and helper to seven-day remand on
March 27.
Police arrested Arafat from Shahrasti in Chandpur on March 26 and acting
on the information gathered in the primary interrogation Ibharim was arrested
from Middle Badda area in the capital on March 27.
On March 20, another court put driver Sirajul Islam, 24, to seven days
remand.
Abrar was run over by Suprobhat Paribahan bus on the morning of March 19
as he was trying to cross the road.
It was learned later that the same bus earlier on that morning had struck
another pedestrian, leaving her seriously injured and crushed Abrar as it was
trying to flee the scene after the first incident.
Abrar’s father Brigadier General (retd) Arif Ahammed Chowdhury filed a
case against the driver, his helper, conductor and owner of the bus with
Gulshan Police Station.
