Imams for making Rangpur city model of urban immunization

RANGPUR, Apr 04, 2019 (BSS) – Imams and Khatibs of different mosques at an advocacy workshop here today pledged to inspire common citizens in making Rangpur city a model of urban immunization.

They also discussed importance of immunization of babies and pregnant mothers in the light of Islam to reduce neonatal and maternal deaths for building a healthier nation to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) organised the advocacy workshop styled ‘Rangpur City Corporation- Model of Urban Immunization’ at its hall room in the City Bhaban with assistance of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Some 156 Imams and Khatibs of different mosques participated in the event arranged for availing assistance of religious leaders in creating social awareness to make the urban immunization programme for babies and mothers a success in the city.

With Chief Medical Officer of RpCC Dr. Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz in the chair, Panel Mayor of Rangpur city Md. Mahmudur Rahman Titu attended the workshop as the chief guest.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam, Divisional Coordinator of WHO Dr. Golam Mostafa, Acting Secretary of RpCC Abdul Mannan, Director of Islamic Foundation Mohiuddin Chowdhury and its Assistant Director Shamsul Haque also spoke.

Dr. Taz discussed importance of immunization of pregnant mothers and babies for ensuring sound health, normal growths of babies during pregnancy and safe deliveries to further reduce maternal and neonatal morality rates.

The Civil Surgeon called upon the Imams and Khatibs to deliver special ‘Khutba’ in the light of Islam to inspire common citizens for making the immunization programme for mothers and babies successful in Rangpur city.

The chief guest expressed gratitude to the participating Imams and Khatibs for expressing their firm commitment to play their due roles in creating pubic awareness for turning Rangpur city into a model of urban immunization.
