Creating awareness to stop early marriage stressed

NAOGAON, April 04, 2019 (BSS) – As early marriage harms the teenagers physically, mentally and socially, this social menace should be stopped, campaigning for ill effects of early marriage, speakers at a meeting said here today.

Laying emphasis on creating mass awareness among the people for stopping early marriage, the speakers expressed concern over the prevalence of child marriage in the society and advocated for educating the people on it.

The meeting on “Early marriage and dowry” held on the premises of Nagarkushum High Schoo was organized by the Naogaon Multi-purpose Co-operative Society with Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Sattar in the chair.

Managing Director of the cooperative society M Masud Rana, representatives of local government bodies and activists against child marriage and dowry, among others, addressed the meeting.

According to health experts, child marriage creates many health complications among mothers and it must be stopped for promoting women empowerment.

When a minor girl becomes mother, the health of both the mother and the child become vulnerable, they said adding early marriage is one of major causes for higher rate of malnutrition among the children.

The speakers urged the government to take all necessary measures, including strict enforcement of the existing law, for eliminating child marriage.
