RANGPUR, Apr 01, 2019 (BSS) – Taking stringent measures against all sorts of food adulteration has become crucial through proper enforcement of the laws concerned to ensure supply of pure and safe foods in local markets.
Experts made these observations today at a participatory discussion on Safe Food Act 2013, Consumers’ Right Protection Act 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010 held at hall room of Chandanpat union parisahd in Sadar upazila in the district.
The district unit of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) with assistance of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) and Department of National Consumer Rights Protection organised the discussion.
Presided over by Chairman of Chandanpat union parisahd Md. Amenur Rahman, Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana Pervin addressed the event as the chief guest.
Poultry Development Officer of the Department of Livestock Agriculturist Md. Fazlul Karim, District Sanitary Inspector Mahbubar Rahman, General Secretary of district unit of CAB Ahsanul Haque Tuhin and its Filed Coordinator Iqbal Hossain also spoke.
Sanitary Inspector Mahbubar Rahman discussed the Safe Food Act 2013 while Agriculturist Fazlul Karim discussed the Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act, 2010 and Filed Officer of CAB Naznin Sultana discussed the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act 2009.
In his welcome speech, Union Chairman Amenur Rahman laid emphasis on making
the business community members, traders and consumers aware of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and poisonous foods.
The speakers said the common consumers have already started getting benefits from enforcements of these Acts and are becoming more aware of their rights of getting pure food products in local markets.
Mahbubar Rahman put emphasis on enhancing public awareness and strict enforcement of these important laws to protect rights of the consumers for saving public health and animal health from food poisoning, other contamination and health hazards.
The chief guest called for adopting effective and stringent measures against supply and marketing of adulterated and poisonous foods to protect public health on way to build a healthier nation and attain sustainable development goals.
She put special emphasis on strict enforcement of the Safe Food Act 2013, Consumers’ Right Protection Act 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010 has become imperative to ensure supply of pure and safe foods to common people.
