BNSK observes 88th birthday of Shaheed Journalist Selina Parvin

DHAKA, March 31, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK), a
platform of women journalists, today paid glowing tribute to Shaheed journalist Selina Parvin urging the young generation
to imbue with her struggling spirit for thwarting all forms of extremism.

Marking the 88th birthday of Shaheed journalist Selina Parvin, BNSK organised a memorial lecture on the life of journalist
Selina Parvin and an award-giving ceremony at the Jatiya Press Club auditorium in the city.

Human rights activist Sultana Kamal addressed the meeting as the chief
guest with BNSK President Nasimun Ara Huq Minu in the chair.

Geeti Ara Nasrin, a professor of Mass Communication and
Journalism Department of Dhaka University, was present as special guest at the function.

In her speech, Sultana Kamal asked the young generation to uphold Selina’s sacrifice and
struggling spirit for building a Bangladesh as dreamt by martyrs of the country”s Liberation War.

BNSK president demanded to include the autobiography of Selina Parvin at
the school-level textbooks.

Staff reporter of 71 Television Nadia Sharmeen, received the “Shaheed
Selina Parvin Courageous Journalism Award-2019” for the first time introduced by
BNSK.

On the occasion, family members of Selina Parvin , BNSK members and a number
of journalists from print, electronic and online media attended, among
others.

Selina Parvin (March 31, 1931-December 14, 1971) was a Bangladeshi
journalist and poet. She is one of the intellectual martyrs killed by Al-Badr
on December 14, immediately before the victory after the 9-month-long War of
Independence. Al-Badr members picked up Selina from her New Circular Road
house in Dhaka on December 13, 1971.

As a journalist she worked for Weekly Begum, Weekly Lalana and
Shilalipi.

She was buried in Azimpur Graveyard on December 18, 1971 after recovering
her body from Rayerbazar mass grave.
