Rangpur observes Int’l Women’s Day

RANGPUR, March 8, 2018 (BSS) – The International Women’s Day-2018 was observed here today with a fresh call for ensuring equal rights of the women and their participation in every field of national development activities.

The people of Rangpur observed the day through colourful programmes with theme of ‘Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives’ here as elsewhere in the country and the world as a whole.

The district administration, Department of Women’s Affairs (DWA), NGOs like ‘Pollishree’, ‘Amrai Pari’, ‘Karmojibi Nari’, Samajtantrik Mohila Forum’ and other organisations and bodies chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.

The programmes included rallies participated by hundreds of women, girls, adolescents, students from different educational institutions, NGO activists, officials and employees, seminars, special fair, lighting candle, discussions and cultural functions.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib attended the main post-rally discussion held on the Public Library premises as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DWA Shamima Akhter Banu in the chair.

Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian, District Women Affairs Officer Kawser Pervin, President of district unit of ‘Amrai Pari Zila Jyote’ Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, among others, addressed.

The speakers laid special importance changing the social mindset to eradicate gender disparity for flourishing women leadership and ensuring equal rights of the women at all levels of the society.

Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu called for ending violence against women to ensure their equal emancipation in development, economy, politics, governance, every profession and sector for building a prosperous nation.

The chief guest narrated about various government steps taken for ensuring equal rights of the women to attain sustainable national uplift and make Independence meaningful for every citizen as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
