Players urged to do ‘extra practice’ in own initiative for WC

DHAKA, March 29, 2019 (BSS)- As the ICC Cricket World Cup is approaching
fast, national cricket team selector Habibul Bashar urged the players to do
something extra in practice session in a bid to make them perfectly prepared
for the showcase event.

He said that the players should do something with their own initiative as
the coach always will not be there to show what to do and what not to do.

Habibul Bashar, also the former skipper of Bangladesh, basically put
emphasize on individual practice session, stressing that the match practice
in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) alone won’t fetch them the expected result in
the cricket’s biggest extravaganza.

“We have people to guide the players about the technical matters. If they
(players) find any technical glitch in their batting or bowling, they can go
to the coach, take his advice and work accordingly,” Bashar said here today.
“The coach is here and he guides everyone and gives everyone some tasks to
do. The players should do it regularly but still the players should not think
that the coach will show everything and they should rely only on the coach.
They should do something in their own initiative for their improvement and
betterment. Every good player does something at his own, so that he can hone
his skill and be craftier in his business.”

Bashar also stressed on the needs to utilize the match practice in Dhaka
Premier League as more as the players can to do.

“You won’t get that opportunity always. Here wicket is superb. So they
should utilize the chance as more as they can,” he said.

But what was disappointing for Bashar was that he still finds any player
who can appear as surprise package in DPL.

“So far the DPL is going on nicely. Normally proven players perform well
in DPL but still every year we get some players from this league. This year
we are yet to get any player who can surprise us. Hopefully we’ll get
someone.”
