13 Bangladeshi companies join fashion expo in Tokyo

DHAKA, March 28, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 13 apparel and leather companies
from Bangladesh joined the ‘Fashion World Tokyo-2019’ exhibition with high
quality, fashionable and latest products.

The fashion expo began yesterday at Tokyo Big Sight which will continue
till 29 March, according to a release issued here today.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan Rabab Fatima visited the Bangladesh
pavilion and exchanged views with the participating entrepreneurs.

Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo and Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion
Bureau (EPB) are providing all-out support to the participators.

Later, a seminar on the ‘Recent Developments of Bangladeshi Apparel
Industry’ was organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh in collaboration with
MoC and EPB of Bangladesh supported by Japan External Trade Organisation
(JETRO), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Japan-
Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Co-operation (JBCCCEC) and
Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI & TCCI) and Japan Textile
Importers Association (JTIA).

Over 130 buyers and representatives of Japanese companies joined the
seminar, the release said.

Rabab Fatima said, “Bangladesh is the 2nd largest garments exporter in the
world, and Japan is our number one destination for garments products in Asia.
Knitwear is currently our number one export item to Japan.”

In 2018, Bangladesh apparels had a 34 percent growth which was the highest
in Japanese market, she said, terming the event as the perfect business
matching opportunity for both Japanese buyers and Bangladeshi companies.

Director of Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI),
Yasujiro Miyake; Ikue Toshinaga, Industrial Development Officer of UNIDO;
President of Maruhisa Co. Ltd, Masahiro Hiraishi and Commercial Counsellor of
the Embassy of Bangladesh Mohammad also visited the expo.
