Call for recognising March 25 as International Genocide Day

RANGPUR, March 25, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at separate discussions here today
called for global recognition of the March 25 as the ‘International Genocide
Day’ to uphold honour and dignity of the humanity.

They made the call at the discussions organised by the district
administration, political and other organisations in observance of the
Genocide Day-2019 commemorating the atrocities carried out by Pakistani
occupation army on the unarmed Bengalese on the black night on this day in
1971.

The district administration, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies,
District Information Office, Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee (GDNC), Sector
Commanders’ Forum (SCF) and other organisations observed the day through
various programmes.

The programmes included placing of wreaths at the mass graves, monument of
martyred freedom fighters, protest processions, human chains and discussions
to pay rich tribute to the martyred of 1971.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib attended the main discussion organised by
the district administration at Town hall auditorium as the chief guest with
Additional District Magistrate Shukria Pervin in the chair.

Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Additional Deputy
Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abdullah Al Faruk,
Additional Police Super Maruf Hossain, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishrat
Sadiya Sumi and Office Secretary of district AL Tauhidur Rahman Tutul
addressed as special guests.

The district and city units of AL observed the day through programmes like
lighting candles, screening of documentary films on the gruesome genocide
committed by the Pakistani occupation forces on district AL office premises
in the city.

With Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed in the chair, its
General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city AL President Shafiur
Rahman Shafi, among others, attended the programmes.

The district units of GDNC and SCF jointly organised a discussion on the
mass grave premises behind the Public Library in observance of the day and
forwarded demand for international recognition of March 25 as the
International Genocide Day.

Presided over by President of the district unit of GDNC Dr Mofizul Islam
Mantu, its General Secretary Moazzem Hossain Lablu moderated the discussion
participated by leaders, activists of the organisations and civil society
members.

The speakers discussed unprecedented genocide committed by the Pakistani
occupation army on this soil on March 25 in 1971 and demanded for global
recognition of March 25 as the International Genocide Day to uphold dignity
of the humanity.
