President, PM for quality primary education

 DHAKA, March 5, 2018 (BSS) – President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the present government is sincerely working through implementing various programmes for ensuring quality of primary education.

In separate messages issued on the occasion of National Primary Education Week-2018, they said primary education has been given top priority for achieving sustainable and balanced development of the country alongside building information technology-based modern nation.

In his message, the President said there is no alternative to ensuring quality education and technology based competent manpower for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The President said, “The government has been working relentlessly to ensure quality education for all. Special emphasis has also been laid on achieving the SDGs in the Seventh Five Year Plan of the government.”

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, he said and hoped that this goal would be achieved with concerted efforts of all.

The Prime Minister, in her message said, the present government is giving priority to the education sector, particularly primary education, to make a competent new generation with moral and humanitarian values.

Bangladesh has already achieved gender equity in education, which has been appreciated all over the world, she said, adding that the country got UNESCO award as recognition to gender equality in education.

Sheikh Hasina said the government distributed 260 crore 85 lakh 91 thousand and 290 textbooks in the past nine years to check drop-out rate of students.

She said education appeared to be a prime sector in post-independence reconstruction campaign with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman seeking to ensure a solid primary education of universal nature. Bangabandhu nationalized 37,165 primary schools to ensure universal access to education, she said.

“We have nationalized 26,193 primary schools to bring all children to schools. Computer lab and multimedia classrooms have been set up at 31,131 educational institutions to promote ICT-based education in the country,” she added.

The government would also be able to build a hunger, poverty, illiteracy, happy and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangladesh’ as dreamt by the greatest Bangalee of all time, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said.

Both the President and the Prime Minister wished all programmes of the week a success.
