RCC, ICLEI signed MOU for implementing priority programmes

RAJSHAHI, March 25, 2019 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) aimed at sustainable urban development in the city.

Based on the MoU, ICLEI intends to formulate priority projects through collecting information of various sectors including waste management, and implement those under the Urban Low Emission Development Strategies Phase- 2 project.

Reducing transport emissions, enhancing building energy efficiency and improving solid waste management were some of the ambitions of the project.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI South Asian Team Imani Kumar signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at City Bhaban conference hall here.

Deputy Director Soumya Chaturvedula, Bangladesh Operation Manager Jubaer Rashid and City Project Officer Tasnim Alam were present at the signing ceremony on behalf of the ICLEI South Asian Team.

RCC Panel Mayors Shariful Islam Babu and Tehera Begum, Chief Executive Officer Shawgatul Islam, Secretary Rejaul Karim and Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque were present on the occasion.

In his remarks, Mayor Liton says the RCC has a plan for holding an international conference with various donor agencies and institutions from both home and abroad in 2021.
