DHAKA, 4 March, 2018 (BSS) – Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said today that the 9th Wage Board Award would be announced in September, 2018.
“It would synchronies with the five-year cycle of the earlier Wage Boards”, he told journalists after a meeting with stakeholders at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).
“The Board had talked to all stakeholders including owners, journalists and employees about it and came to the conclusion that the Wage Board should be declared in September,” he said.
He also said that the economic viability of the media also came up for discussion and the information ministry would make recommendations, accordingly, to the finance ministry for a special allocation for the media in the upcoming budget.
The minister said that the issue of involving the electronic media in the Wage Board structure also came up for discussion.
“There are a number of proposals about it and the Board was actively considering those,” he said.
Regarding implementation of the Wage Board Award, he said that was a different issue and there, too, the Board had received many proposals.
“They would be actively considering those, “he assured.
The next meeting of the Wage Board will be held next Sunday.
