RAJSHAHI, March 21, 2019 (BSS) – Mass-media both print and electronics
can play a vital role towards ensuring safe poultry farming and marketing for
the sake of freeing the public health from hazards.
If the malpractices and anomalies were made public through media
frequently the common people can get scope of taking precautionary measures
to protect them from the hazards. Besides, the policy planners and others
concerned can also avail the chance of formulating strict legal steps.
The observation came at a sharing meeting with Media for Information
dissemination in Relation to food Safety governance at local level at a
restaurant in the city today.
The journalists who attended the meeting were sensitized on objective
reporting on the issue regularly as many health risk challenges were added to
the poultry sector at present.
Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organized the programme in
association with an Issue-based project on “Food Safety Governance in Poultry
Sector in Bangladesh” and UKaid and British Council.
Chaired by CAB local unit President Gazi Giash, the meeting was
addressed by District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain, Field
Coordinator of CAB Project Mijanur Rahman, Field Officer Mozammel Sheikh and
local unit General Secretary Golam Mostofa Mamun as focal persons.
The meeting was told that production of safe poultry birds is urgent to
protect public health from various infectious and chronic diseases. People of
all stakes should come forward and work together to ensure safe poultry
production.
Poultry farmers, hatchery owners, poultry bird sellers, feed meal
manufacturers and sellers and other concerned should be brought under
awareness programme so that they can play their due role to attain the
cherished goal.
In his remarks, Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain puts forward a set of
recommendations on how to make the poultry sector safe and hygienic.
Using overrated antibiotic in poultry feed is harmful for public health.
So, time has come to look into the matter with utmost emphasis. “We have to
ensure safe poultry feed and good poultry farming management,” he added.
