Government to protect homesteads, arable land from erosion

GAIBANDHA, Mar 21, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources
Ministry Jahid Faruk, MP, said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina is cordial to protect the homesteads and arable land from the river
erosion.

“A project involving TK 328 crore has been taken to protect the bank of
the Brahmaputra River in the district including Fulchhari Gano-Kabor from the
erosion”, he said.

State Minister Jahid Faruk was talking with the newsmen of print and
electronic media here yesterday at Old Fulchhari Bazaar after visiting the
Gano-kabor.

No irregularities and mismanagement would be tolerated in the
development works of the project here, the minister warned.

The minister also urged the local people including public
representatives to supervise the works regularly so that the works could be
accomplished properly.

Earlier, deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker
Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah welcomed the minister and briefed him about the
vulnerable areas along the bank of the river in the upazila.

State minister Jahid Faruk assured the deputy speaker that necessary
measures would be taken for protection of the areas from the erosion of the
Brahmaputra River in phases.

Additional secretary of the ministry Mahmudul Islam, director general of
the board Mahfuzur Rahman, chief engineer Mir Mosarrof Hossain,
superintendent engineer Harun-or-Rashid, chairman of Gaibandha Zila Parishad
Ataur Rahman, deputy commissioner Abdul Matin and executive engineer
Mokhlasur Rahman accompanied the minister during his visit.
