4 Bangladeshis return home after 9 years in Myanmar jail

DHAKA, March 20, 2019 (BSS) – Four Bangladeshi citizens have returned home after serving nine and a half years imprisonment in a jail in Myanmar.

A representative team from Myanmar handed over the prisoners to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through a flag meeting held in Myanmar today.

All of the four Bangladeshi citizens served jail after getting arrested over smuggling yaba and going to Malaysia through illegal channel.

The returnees are: Md Zasim, 44, Md Ilias, 29, Sabbir Ahmed, 36, and Asgar Ali, 39. They have already been handed over to Teknaf Model police station for handing over them to their families.

Acting commanding officer of Teknaf BGB-2, Major Shariful Islam Jommadar said Myanmar has agreed to return back four Bangladeshi prisoners following a long procedure.

An 11-member Bangladeshi representative team led by Jommadar held a flag meeting with an eight-member Myanmar representative team led by Thin Lin, deputy director of Maungdaw district police, at Maungdaw 1 no entry and exit point in Myanmer at 11 am today.

After the meeting was over, Myanmar representative team handed over the four Bangladeshis to BGB.
