1,000 domestic animals vaccinated in Rajshahi char-village

RAJSHAHI, April 29, 2017 (BSS)- More than 1,000 domestic animals including cattle, buffalo, goat and sheep were vaccinated free of cost for preventing various diseases in the district.

Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) organised the daylong vaccination camp at Char Nabinagar Government Primary School premises in Mazar Diar village under Paba upazila yesterday to mark the celebration of “World Veterinary Day-2017”.

Side by side with the vaccination activities, a discussion titled
“Antibiotic Resistance-From Awareness to Action” was also held on the
occasion largely attended by the villagers.

Professor Dr Khalequzzaman from Department of Zoology, Prof Dr Sarder
Jalal Uddin from Department of Veterinary and its Deputy Chief Veterinarian Dr Hemayetul Islam Arif of Rajshahi University addressed the discussion disseminating their expertise on the issue.

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Kabir Uddin Ahmed, Zonal Sales Manager of ACI Limited Delwar Hossain, Area Manager of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Mustafizur Rahman, BLS Treasurer Enamul Haque and its Organising Secretary Selina Begum also spoke.

In his remarks, Prof Khalequzzaman observed that the contribution of
livestock sector is immense in terms of meeting up the protein deficiency and socio-economic development and said there is no alternative to elevate the sector.

He called for substantial and sustainable development of the country’s
animal resource sector through removing its existing problems to face the nation’s protein deficiency.

To build a healthy and stronger nation, equal importance towards boosting production of both food grains and animal resources has become an urgent need, he viewed.

Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder stressed the need for uplifting the livestock
sector for food security, self-employment and poverty reduction. He also called for due importance on adopting modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training to promote the sector.

Besides, large-scale farming of fodder could further develop the livestock sector to contribute immensely in fulfilling the protein deficiency in the country, he added.
