244 distressed people get financial support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 19, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 244 poor and distressed
people including 16 patients suffering from various chronic diseases like
kidney complaint, liver cirrhosis, heart ailment, cancer and paralysis caused
by stroke received financial support worth Taka 10.01 lakh.

Deputy Director Office of Department of Social Services (DSS) and
District administration jointly organized the cheque distribution programme
in the conference hall of deputy commissioner (DC) here yesterday.

On the occasion, 228 students and affected persons got financial support
for treatment and education from Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council
(BNSWC).

Chaired by DSS Deputy Director Rashedul Kabir the programme was attended
and addressed, among others, by DC SM Abdul Kader, Additional District
Magistrate Zulkar Nayon, Director (Additional Charge) of DSS Divisional
Office Hasina Momtaz and BNSWC Member Mozammen Haque.

Abdul Kader said the present government has taken many steps for the
welfare of patients to help them pass their days without difficulties and it
has attached priority for successful implementation of social safety net
programmes.

He added the safety net programmes were furthermore expanded to achieve
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). So, all kind of non-coordination,
laps and gaps must be removed on an urgent basis.

DC Kader said considering their vulnerable condition, the government has
launched welfare programme. The beneficiaries have been getting their
allowance timely through their own bank accounts.

The safety net programmes can play a major role in eradicating poverty
by ensuring its proper planning, effective implementing policy, proper
coordination and transparency and accountability, he added.
